Motiv8 has adopted the evidence based Risk and Protective Factors as used extensively throughout the UK and USA, in particular recognised by the Youth Justice Board. There is no simple explanation to what causes a young person to offend or commit anti-social behaviour. The likelihood of offending increases when a young person experiences a number of risk factors. No single factor can be pin pointed as the cause for offending and some factors are only relevant when others are already present.

Based on the above model Motiv8 seeks to support identifying the Risk factors and helping to increase the Protective factors present in a young persons life. This is as much intended as a preventative approach as it is working with young people who have already been actively involved in offending or anti-social behaviour.
